Sir Edward Henry Garnier, QC, MP (born 26 October 1952) is a barrister and Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. A former ''Guardian'' lawyer, he is on the socially liberal wing of his party and has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Harborough in Leicestershire since 1992. He most recently served as Solicitor General for England and Wales from the election of 2010 until the 2012 ministerial reshuffle.〔(www.bbc.co.uk )〕〔http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/liberaldemocrats/9524105/Cameron-piles-Cabinet-with-record-32-ministers.html Cameron piles Cabinet with record 32 ministers, Daily Telegraph〕 ==Early life== Edward Garnier was born in Germany, the youngest son of Colonel William d'Arcy Garnier (3rd son of Brigadier-General Alan Garnier CB MBE MC)〔(''qv'' BLG 1965, CARPENTER-GARNIER ''of Rookesbury Park'' )〕 and the Hon Lavender ''née'' de Grey〔(www.thetimes.co.uk )〕 (eldest daughter of the 8th Baron Walsingham〔(www.cracroftspeerage.co.uk )〕). He was educated at Wellington College, then an all-boys independent school in Crowthorne, Berkshire. He went on to study at Jesus College, Oxford. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in modern history in 1974; as per tradition, his BA was promoted to MA (Oxon) in 1976. He went on to study at the College of Law at Chancery Lane in the City of London.
